Mod for Oktava MK 012
The Oktava MK 012 condenser is a wonderful instrument microphone. Unlike most of the bright Schoeps style circuits, this Russian circuit has a very warm sound. These mics are great for overheads, guitars, strings and on bright sources. These are great mics out of the box. Used they sell for 0 to 0.00.
The Mod:
This is my adaptation of the mod made famous by Scott Dorsey. For this mod I have my own "brew " of Fet, resistors and capacitors. As you can see in the picture, I use two big Siemens 0.47uf film capacitors (0.94uf). They are important capacitors that carry all of the microphones amplified signal to the PNP output transistor. The film capacitors adds clairity and detail along with smooth warm sound. The original capacitor is an electrolytic capacitor in the signal path. I also mod the 10db pad with a high quality Polystyrene capacitor.
The modded mic has a much better sound with better detail and clairity.
