    with Dec 13, 1894, West Park, N.Y. postmark on front
    and Bethel, ME Dec. 14, 1894 back stamp
    In full: "Permit me to thank you for your grateful little poem 'An Election'. /
    The verses are very neatly & happily turned. / Very Sincerely John Burroughs"

    John Burroughs was an American naturalist and writer, active in the U.S. Conservation
    movement. He wrote about outdoor life and filled his works with vivid descriptions of
    nature. The first of his essay collection was "Wake-Robin" in 1871.
