    Description

"Envelope" holster by the late, great Eagle Industries, Unlimited, made in St. Louis, MO.     Built for Navy SEALS in 1990 for Operations Desert Shield/Storm.    Called "envelope holster" because the flap folds over twice to snap shut by a fastex buckle, the purpose of which was to keep out the fine powder-like sand of the  Arabian desert.     Constructed of 5 layers of heavy duty, abrasion-resistant, water repellent 1000 denier (aka 11-ounch) Cordura nylon.    Thus the reason for all the stitching done in 1-inch squares all over the holster; to hold the multi layers stable & together.    All bindings are double stitched.      Has M56 (Model of 1956) belt attachment clips (mistakenly called "ALICE" clips) on the back.       Olive green color.     Has 2" x 2" nylon patch beneath the Eagle logo on back to hold optional leg strap.    Metal 2" long hangar for attaching optional drop-leg strap.      Designed to hold Beretta M9 or M1911 service pistols. Of course, it would hold any pistol of the same general shape and size.    Not at all a fast-draw holster, as the sidearm is considered a secondary, backup arm.     But certainly a protective holster.     Very ruggedly built.     Approximately 500 were made for the Navy contract with a small over-run, of which these are among that number.     NEW-Old, Unused condition.     A rare and unusual piece of tactical gear.
