Description

I am selling a very scarce piece of Winfield dinnerware pottery!
This item is from a set we purchased while on vacation, I am selling the various pieces separately.
This set is Winfield’s Oats pattern, made on the unusual Mandarin shape. The Mandarin shape is square, while most Winfield dinnerware shapes are round. The Oats pattern comes with either an ivory background or a chartreuse background, while the hand painted decoration is dark green. The pieces to this set I am selling are in the ivory and dark green color combination.
In case you are curious, there is an example of 2 pieces of Winfield square dinnerware on page 13 of Jack Chipman’s book
“COLLECTOR’S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF
CALIFORNIA
POTTERY”.
The pieces shown are described as La Mirada, which was the predecessor of the American Ceramics Products. This is interesting because Winfield approached American Ceramics Products with help producing products after World War II ended. Was the Oats pattern a result of this business arrangement?
I can’t find much information about the Oats pattern. Aside from identifying the pattern, all I know for sure is that it is very hard to find, and pieces command a premium price. I checked a well-known china and glass replacement service, and they have very little available. They are asking over .00 just for the lid to the coffee pot, if that gives you an idea as to price.
This item is a large salad serving bowl. It is the only round piece of all the Winfield Oats items in this set.
It measures 10 1/2” in diameter and is 3 5/8” deep. The underside is dark green, the bowl is marked
“WINFIELD
HANDCRAFT
CHINA”.
Condition is excellent! The only sign of wear are a few light utinsel scratches. No other use or wear, and no damage at all.
A wonderful addition to your Winfield collection.
Don’t miss the many other pieces of this great Oats pattern, I have them for sale on separate listings.
No reserve!
